@qazThere's no real alt-text box on Pleroma-FE. Just a single line that by default contains the filename.Maybe there's an "Akkoma-FE" that you are using that doesn't have that problem?

@Hyolobrika @m @qaz @meso i think i understand what's happening here, and it's a bit of a history. Basically, Activity Pub has a field called "name". Pleroma implemented this for media and, unsurprisingly, provided the filename there. But then Mastodon implemented image descriptions, and they needed a field for that. Activity Pub has a "summary" field, but Mastodon decided to use the "name" field instead. I'm unsure why they chose that, but I assume it's because the "name" field is text by default, while "summary" is html by default. So now Pleroma would send their messages to Mastodon with the filename where Mastodon expects the image description. Mastodon got more popular, and many people got mad at Pleroma because it seemed to them people like Pleroma was the one putting nonsense in the image descriptions. So eventually Pleroma started to use it as image description as well, but, for some reason, left an option to still use filenames as a fallback. So now you still have many Pleroma instances where the "name" field will contain the filename when no image description is provided. In Akkoma this fallback-option has been removed since the latest release.
