@furgar in the US its called KYC (know your customer) and is required by the government. My credit union has told me that more than $5000 you need to let them know in advance

@radix023 @furgar I withdraw almost $10,000 a month from my FCU and they don't bat an eye. But I live in an almost exclusively cash based area. Half the stores don't accept cards here.

@radix023 @furgar gov reporting starts at $10,000 anything less is your banks policy. If you withdraw under $10k and they ask you, they are going beyond the legal requirements.

@furgar Ahh, wonderful. Declining a person to withdraw his own money. Only modern western society could come up with these laws and regulation. The sad thing is, there's no other bank to switch to with a more insane policy. Crypto is still useless to me, so in my case, I'm stuck with banks with their ridiculous AML/KYC rules.

@furgar They saw £1bn of withdrawals in March alone. They alone were a large part of the £3-4bn that was withdrawn from banks in total during March. I have no sympathy for NatWest in any case.

@furgar we typically keep about 10k in cash in our house. Bought a large fire-resistant safe (none are fire "proof"), along with a fire-resistant document bag for in the safe. Bolted the fucker to the concrete floor in the basement. We are our own bank for this shit fiat. Next step is to buy gold or silver coins or bullion. More fire resistant, and will hold it's value longer. We'll probably do this with most of the cash that's currently still in the bank.

@furgar In 2010, I worked at Morgan Stanley in China.Bank of China made my life impossible, not allowing me to transfer funds to my wife in a simple way. I closed the account, went to HR and informed them.I said "cash or cash check will do", and they said "No, must be bank account". I pointed to employment contract, they were obligated to pay me, but it didn't say that I was had to have a bank account. Made it HR's problem. Fun!!!@ThewTheKooky @baronessloveandlight @Bradley_JF
