fediiiiiiii :akko_weary: Please recommend me a good pair of noise-canceling headphones (mainly over ear models, but earbuds suggestions are welcome too)acceptable price range is up to 200 euro, maybe 250, but preferably lower so long as it noise cancels reasonably well without fucking up the sound too muchboosts are welcome :meowWeary:

@kura it's for my pc (specifically my tv setup)my main issue is that I have this noisy machine on my roof that I want to block out, so I was thinking a pair of cans for over my ears as they will prolly be better at blocking stuff than earbuds :akko_badday:

@fristi The Fairbuds XL released recently: https://shop.fairphone.com/en/fairbuds-xlHeard good things about them but haven't tried them myself. The reparability seems nice in theory but that company didn't support the first Fairphone very long so I don't know how long they'll support these.I think @puniko ordered them?

@fristi I use some Samson SR950s for noise cancellation myself, and find they work well.Worse comes to worse, Dankpods gave the advice of just wearing in-ears with muffs in his GK-Music UltraPhones review. He claimed the UltraPhones were good (They're just 3M industrial muffs with professional Sony drivers stuffed in, of course they're good), but too costly for most.

@julia_ it's for at home. My main use case is for at my computer, and what I'm trying to noise cancel is the buzzing from an annoying heat pump (more specifically the heat exchanger on the roof right above me).Personally I don't mind shilling out for a decent pair, but I'm not super rich so let's say maybe 200 or 250 euro max

@esheep@raru.re @fristi@akkos.fritu.re yes, i have them. can't really say anything how well the noise canceling is tho since i never had noise canceling before.sound is pretty good, pairing is easy. runtime seems to be quite long too. they are a bit prone to wind tho, its what i noticed (better don't turn on ambient mode when its windy)otherwise i'm pretty happy with them so far

@puniko @esheep usually it depends a bit on the headphones, like I used to have some philips headphones that had very thick pads, but then I bought some sennheiser headphones and even the thicker replacement pads were still too thin. I'm not sure what is considered "normal" for headphones.

@fristi hi! I bought the Sony WH1000XM3 about 4 years ago and never regretted it. I needed to block out traffic noise and noisy neighbours. They're comfy and the noise cancelling is just great - even unnerving the first time you put them on, that's how good it is.They've been replaced by the WH1000XM4 and the WH1000XM5 since. You can find the WH1000XM4 for ~260. That's stretching the budget a bit, but the results are just great. You might find the WH1000XM3 somewhere for cheaper still?

@joepie91 as far as I know, the sony xm ones can be charged while listening, but generally speaking the supplied usb c cord is short. So you're kinda huddled up next to the device producing the sound, which in my use case would be the pc next to the tv :meowShrug: So yea that's certainly an argument, but it wouldn't matter too much for me either way. The pressure thing with is something you'll have with most noise cancelling headphones as that is how noise cancelling works. I had that with my sony wf earbuds too. Anyway I'll be on the lookout for the sony headphones. I usually get my audio stuff from them and so far they never disappointed.

@puniko @esheep btw, do these switch between ambient and noise cancelling mode? Or is it possible to have both off like how sony has it? Also, as far as noise cancelling goes, how well does it block out sound? Do you still hear stuff or is it almost completely gone?

@fristi@akkos.fritu.re @esheep@raru.re 3 modes: noise canceling, ambient and off. so yes.it seems to block noise out pretty well, but as i said before, cant really compare and say how well it is since its the first noise canceling headphones i have.

@joepie91 @fristi I'll second the QC recommendation. The QC 45s in particular are amazing. New, they run a bit more than your budget, but are often enough put on sale that you likely can find some within 200 EUR.

@joepie91 @xgranade @fristi thirded! My husband has the Sony but prefers my Boses. I’m getting the feeling there are “Bose people” and “Sony people” - some people dislike the Bose and say they feel pressure, I dislike the Sony because to me it has a hum. Best case scenario is you can borrow one of them from a friend and test them…

@venite @joepie91 @xgranade >I’m getting the feeling there are “Bose people” and “Sony people”there are always brand loyalists, yes. Personally I do tend to be more sony oriented simply because sony stuff is more available here, and usually can be gotten a bit cheaper. Sony also has remained pretty consistent with it's audio equipment, so you kinda know what to expect. But I wouldn't mind trying out the bose stuff. I know bose speakers and headphones usually are a bit more clear and natural sounding than sony, which usually has more "boomy bass" so to speak. Neither are bad. I do think bose hit the nail on the head with their wireless earbuds though. They are better than the sony ones, even if only just because they have those ear hooks to keep them stable in your ears.

@fristi Jabra Elite 85h if budget is an issue. I wear them while running.Biggest advantage is the water resistance. Most over ear headphones break down pretty fast due to sweat and/or light rain or moist air. These Jabra's don't.I've found the fit more pleasant than any other brand.Good luck on your search. 😊👍
