I'm trying to make sense of this - https://genderanalysis.net/2023/05/the-far-right-law-firm-alliance-defending-freedom-offered-a-florida-anti-trans-hate-group-15000-to-refute-the-wpath-standards-of-care-for-use-in-litigation/ - as it's being lauded as exceptional investigative journalism, but so far, all I'm understanding is that the author has discovered that people with gender critical ideas communicate with one another and share information. It's late so I admit I haven't fully digested this yet but on first look I am not seeing any actual debunking of any underlying research. Has anyone else come across this and if so have you made more sense of it than I have?

@anomielia Yeah that's pretty much it. Like all genderist writings it's 95% bloated irrelevant text whose only purpose is to influence your emotions and values with the actual "thing" somewhere in the middle which proves to be absolutely not sensational.

So it's kind of a written gish gallop filled with so many words it's hard to fix on an actual point?I like to try to steel man the arguments of those with whom I disagree but I struggled to do that here. Best I can tell at some point a group budgeted $1500 for a report. And because that group had an existing viewpoint any report they commissioned was ...?I also like to try to step into my opponent's shoes, to see things from their point of view. And I just can't understand how someone with the intelligence and patience to assemble all of this information wouldn't at any point use their skills to look at the science and the evidence presented by the gender critical and notice that it was credible and devoid of hate.How does one come to a position of such certainty?I would be delighted if after being urged to "educate myself"* I actually found compelling evidence of a gender spectrum, trans kids, the effectiveness of gender affirming care etc because then I could finally just go along with the mainstream, be welcomed back into the progressive fold, stop worrying about this whole issue and devote my energy to something more positive. But I never find such evidence.*(I was reading Butler and Foucault before most of the TRAs were born so I'm perplexed by this particular hole in my education)

@anomielia Really I've been in this for years and years and I started out trying to "get" them, not because I wanted to believe, but because I believed that they believe themselves and understanding them will help dealing with them. But no, it's literally as simple as funding. Trans exist because it's profitable. It exploits women's discomfort and male desire to get off in new ways. It silences feminist analysis because it deconstructs both. When it can't threaten you into submission, when it has to appear to be an intellectual for once, their "research" is all about bloated text that doesn't mean shit and is designed to confuse you. It's like when you're wiring an essay in middle school and try to make your text appear "big" by adding everything that's the least bit relevant. So they just dump it all in there and it's up to you to make sense of it. The idea that their right-ness is already established and everything they say is true and progressive and if you don't see it in their word salad it's YOUR problem, not theirs.
