It's mutilation and it's also giving up in a way. I don't want to sound mean, but you're living an existence that's a denial of basic facts of reality. It's easier to live in a fake world, and sometime reality is too much for people to deal with. But I want people to be able to live in the real world and be happy so I'm always going to be in favor of treatments that accomplish that.But again, with how shit the mental health system is it's not like I don't understand why you'd eventually get exhausted and do whatever made you feel better.

@KitlerIs6 this was before "affirmation only care" so it was an exploration of the issue and all options were considered. after about a year of that I decided (w/ therapist approval) that trying HRT and see how it affected me was worth attempting. I was informed of the risks and approximate timeline for irreversible changes. It ultimately improved my mental health. I was able to actually graduate college and complete a successful internship as a result. I did not change my name or start "presenting as a woman" until it got to the point I was being mistaken for one regularly.

I think transsexuality is a symptom that has numerous potential underlying causes, some of which are best dealt with via other, less invasive means and some for which medicalization is the only current option
