My own website FosseryWeb is in progress! No actual content yet, just a basic design. Made with vanilla HTML, CSS (and it will contain a bit of JavaScript too probably)https://fosseryweb.codeberg.pageWhat do you think?(Source code: https://codeberg.org/fosseryweb/pages/src/branch/main )#website #foss #OpenSource #fosseryweb #fosserytech

@fosserytech Looking good! I have a hobby website hosted on Github Pages, and have recently looked at Codeberg, but I can't see any way to upload existing files (html/css/png) to the repository. In Github, it's easy to drag and drop the files. Admittedly I'm more familar with the Github setup, maybe I'm missing something. #website #github #codeberg

@fredonline you can sync a GitHub repo to Codeberg if you go to + sign on top then New Migration.

@fosserytech What does that actually do? Do the files stay on Github, or are they just mirrored somehow? 🤔

@fredonline I saw a few projects who mirrored their GitHub repo to Codeberg this way. I don't know if the @Codeberg repo stays available if the GitHub repo is deleted though

@fosserytech @Codeberg Hey, thanks for that information. I guess I'll have to do more reading up on Codeberg, not that I'm unhappy with Github - far from it - but it's always interesting to check out alternatives. 🙂

@fosserytech I like the color scheme and design so should be good when content is added.

@fosserytech After more research, I discovered that when I created the new repository, I hadn't checked/ticked the 'Initialize Repository' box. Now I've done that, the options to upload are visible and I uploaded my website files, although I had to upload them in stages as Codeberg wouldn't accept the upload all at once. Anyway, now I know, no problem. 🙂

@fosserytech maybe check out static site generators like gohugo.io as they make it easier to make articles.

@gianmarcogg03 the website will contain dynamic content too. And one of my goals is to practice frontend coding (HTML, CSS, JS). But thanks for the recommendation

@fosserytech nice and simple, I like it. just one thing though, the images filesizes are, in my opinion, a little big for what they're used for, have you considered resizing them and running them through something like tinypng.com to get them lovely and tiny filesizes for quick web use?

@paul I use Curtail for compressing the images which also reduces file size by 70-75%. Maybe the image size is the problem? 🤔 Thanks for the feedback, I'll take a look at it.

@fosserytech could be the resolution if them I guess. I think it's only one or two of them (about 300k), others are fine (40-60k), and only noticed as I am on mobile with poor signal so they took a few seconds to load.they're fine the size they are, but if you want super efficiency, then getting some of them lower would be nice 😁

@fosserytech yeah! I cleared cache and switched to my terribly poor mobile connection and the site still loaded in a good amount of time with all images! nice! 👍
