End up watching an hour plus long video on a Doom wad on Youtube, somehow find myself buying a novel referenced in the video. I'm not sure how the fuck that happened but it did. Hoping House of Leaves isn't shit.

@Jim House of Leaves is great, but in a modern kind of greatness.You'll become accustomed to the page layouts quite quickly, don't let that turn you off.My first time I read it over a weekend then re-read it immediately. There's some good extra lore to be had if you read stuff online, but you don't need to. If the Diaries are part of your book, there's a positive spoiler to be read about them, but I won't be the one to spoil it.

@Jim House of Leaves is decent, worth a read if you haven't done that genre of novel before. Don't do any digital version though, paper layout required.I didn't know someone made a Doom wad though, that sounds cooler.

@Jim I'm surprised you haven't read it already. It was massively popular on 4chan around 2006-2009 and people would constantly link to online copies of it for people to read.It is alright, but I don't think it has aged very well. Part of what made it so interesting was how unique it was in its presentation and the way it eschewed traditional narrative structure to tell a story consisting of multiple meta-narratives nestled like matryoshka dolls. It encourages the read to reread it and constantly jump back and forth to make sense of the stories.However once you have read it more than one time you see how it was all put together it loses the thing that made it fascinating to begin with. Like a magician showing how he preforms his tricks, once you understand the trick is performed, the mystery and glamour disappears.It is best to go into the story blind and try to work it out yourself if you want to enjoy the book as much as possible.

Keep hoping someone'll ask about Blake Stone. I'm curious as to whether any of the early id guys were on that one, or if somebody just licensed the engine and sold the game to Apogee
