Happy #FlyDay Marsh flies (Dictya sp.) usually eat snails and slugs as maggots. Then they grow up to be these gorgeous flies all dressed up for a '30s themed party. I especially love the feathery arista on this one.#FlyDayFriday #macro #nature #photography #insects #Diptera

@twizzt Amazing! Also the snail eating thing. I mean I never thought snails and slugs were particularly fast but I just donโt see how a maggot could sneak up on them and overwhelm them ๐

@nellie_m Mamma fly will lay eggs directly on them. Most parasites/parasitoids hatch very quickly so then they just need to dig in.
