By the way, this is how to get rid of the electoral college without a Constitutional amendment:See: https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/written-explanationIf states that have a combined electoral count of more than 270 amend their own constitutions to award their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, the national popular vote winner becomes president. It would be "tough but plausible" to have this in place by 2028. Still easier than amending the constitution. And see: https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2023/05/18/nevada-legislature-takes-step-toward-joining-national-popular-vote-compact/70234121007/

@Teri_Kanefield I love the solution but there may not be enough states to ratify it since Republicans don't like the popular vote they like the electoral college

@Teri_Kanefield I have been following this since, I think, 2000. As we get closer and Republicans' hardball politics keep getting harder, I've begun to have strong doubts that even if they cross the threshold, that it will actually be implemented. Either states that have joined but since turned red will withdraw, or more likely the radical federal courts will get involved. Seeing you promoting it gives me hope that it might still be realistic 🤞

@BrentInMasto I was quoting the article about "tough but plausible."It really depends on the next election. It doesn't seem like it will go well for Republicans.

@Teri_Kanefield The states don't have to amend their own constitutions, just pass a law. Fifteen states already have passed it, with a total of 195 electoral votes. The laws go into effect once states with a total of 270 electoral votes pass such laws. I feel like the political balance in this country might only have to change a little bit for that to happen... But it would have to change.
