Finally I got an idea to watch a movie.. "The Martian" quite a popular movie and widly available one would think but...We have some 'shared streaming services' (yes, I know but it's too much) and I checked them all but nop!- Netflix: nop- Disney+: nop- HBO Max: nop- Amazon Prime: yeah but only rent 🤨So.. with a million streaming services with each their own nice monthly subscription still the movie I like to watch isn't thereEnough with this shit! Back to the PirateBay :thepiratebay:

@stux Yep. I've even pirated a few movies when I didn't realize I had access to them on a streaming service -- because I don't even bother to check if what I want to see is available anymore. What's the point? It's there one week and gone the next. And don't get me started on the series cancellations. Fuck. Them. All.

@stux Would love a service where you can just buy DRM-free, digital downloads of TV shows/movies so I can just watch them where I like. Music, book and game industry figured this out ages ago.

@stux This won't help you in this case as it's not available, but I often check this site. https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/the-martianThen again I don't know how far to trust such listings, and I don't know how many countries they cover. I remember old versions of this sort of thing kept disappearing or getting out of date as the streamers weren't wanting to be listed in centralized 3rd party listings -- they want people to open up their app and browse and end up watching something they do have.

@stux Been buying DVDs at carboot sales for nowt.When all the numpties are frustrated by being scalped Im happy to return them to the public for a minor fee.Did the same thing with lps, bought them when they were out of fashion post Napster and was able to raise my children midweek off the arbitrage selling lps 40 days a year.You know what? It feels good meeting strangers, trading with them and all the camaraderie of common interests - visit your local fairs and carboot sales #community

@stux I rotate around through services, but generally never more than two at a time. And I wait for shows to finish so that I can subscribe for just one month. It’s mostly ok but more annoying than it should be.I get really upset when something just isn’t available anywhere though.

@stux It's because everything apparently has to be "exclusive". I wish video streaming was like music streaming, and whichever service you choose you'll be able to find pretty much what you want. Maybe some things would cost extra, but it should at least be available

@stux basically most popular and demanded movies slowly got removed from streaming services and are mostly now only for renting.Kinda shows that economical proposal is not working there and greed of companies is only to blame, as they eat market share of each away.I ended up renting it from Amazon, and redownloading extended version from pirate bay anyway, because yeah it is dumb.

@stux I have similar story with watching Shrek and Ice Age movies. Some only 2 of those 7 movies can be streamed straight and rest could be only rented and bought. Those are very popular so weird that they cannot be watched on streaming platforms subscription. In the end decided to rent rest from apple tv.
