Today I fucking learned that the first person Russia sent into space was a woman. Like Laika the dog except we know the dog. They sent Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova into space. As a test subject, not as a cosmonaut. She’s less celebrated than the dog. Men, you fucking cowards. #fuck

@gretared Honestly, people just don't realize how women are so pushed down. I thought we'd made progress with the women's movement, & sure, somewhat, but still a long way to go. Too many men with the old operating system, who refuse to upgrade.

@gretared what are you talking about? She was in Vostok 6, Gagarine was in Vostok 1 in 1961, she flew in 1963, and it was greatly advertized at the time by Russia. Don't get me wrong, they probably advertised it like "we are so strong we can even put women in space" so it's far for perfect, but she was not treated like a dog. To be clear, she's still alive, considered a hero there and she's a member a Douma, a friend of Putin and she voted for Ukraine invasion so don't idealize her either...

@gretared 2 crazy facts. To this day she's still the only women that flew in space solo and it took 20 years for women to be in space again after her... Have a great day.
