Good morning to anyone out here who is legitimately trying to keep AR-15s out of the hands of 12 year olds. You know, 12 year old kids, like the one who shot a fast food worker with an AR-15 n TX yesterday. #’murica

Serious conversation though: how do kids here get guns? Generally, through theft of guns that were not responsibly secured. Someone (maybe the kid, maybe a friend/gang member/acquaintance) breaks into a car or home, and finds unsecured firearms, which they take. The end. How do we prevent this? Well, if you own guns, LOCK THEM THE FUCK UP. If you don’t own guns, support safe storage laws requiring people who do own guns to lock them the fuck up.

@mcnadoBut if they are locked up, how do they protect you from surprise attacks from ninjas or British kings?

@Rog or surprise British ninja kings! On a serious note: people in the US are vastly more likely to be killed by the household defense firearm than by a stranger with a gun. Between suicides, accidents, and domestic murders, firearms in US homes are much more deadly than home invaders.

@mcnado I think AR-15s should all be kept locked up at weapon ranges, which is the only place they should be allowed to be fired. How are they different from a machine gun or a cannon, really? It's a device meant for mass killing and that's its only real use.

@darwinwoodka I think that is a reasonable option (essentially what Austrialia did with many firearms).Odd bit of US firearms laws — muzzleloading cannon are generally not regulated by ATF as firearms. Anyone can order one by mail and set it up. As a kid I always thought having a black powder cannon would be cool and wanted to order one from the various catalogues selling them, but my dad wisely saw the multitude of ways in which that would go awry.
