       As Elizabeth Holmes’s chances of avoiding or delaying her sentence rapidly fade away, I can’t help but feel a bit bemused that her 11 year sentence is for defrauding her investors, not for the bogus medical tests she peddled that might well have resulted in people’s actual deaths.

       @mattblaze exactly.  Elon Musk does this, on a frequent basis.  Why is he not facing prison time, while Elizabeth Holmes is?  Is it that she is not of wealthy lineage, or is it because she's a woman - or is it some combination thereof?

       @tek the same reason Bernie Madoff got such a harsh sentence; regulators don't care when the little guys ("retail" investors) are getting rooked, because that's how the big boys on Wall Street usually make their money.  But when that top tier gets robbed, that's when they take action.

       @fcktheworld587  yes it is in part because she is a woman. She also made the mistake of committing fraud in the medical realm.If you want to get away with it, stick with software that confuses people and don't be female so your work won't be scrutinized as closely.
