Chatbots cannot lie, actually, and they also cannot tell the truth. They just generate text. That's it. They aren't talking to you. They aren't exchanging ideas. They have no concept of anything. They're pulling words out of a hat. Saying they do anything more is anthropomorphizing and everybody keeps doing it

The only reasonable argumentative response to my original post is that “pulling words out of a hat” is *also* anthropomorphization. Nobody caught that, though, because cognitive bias is stronger than humans are. It’s fun.
