Why is the phrase "work from home" anyway? Who decided on "from" as the preposition rather than the, IMO, more sensible "at"?

@RogerBW That might make sense if your job is remote operation of some type of machinery. For most people, the work is done at home and the result is sent somewhere else.

@mansr @RogerBW What is the proper phrase for a job letting you to reside at home and do no work? I mean, being at company residence and doing no work is called "workplace", so, I guess it'd be "workhome"?
