#RepublicanLies They've been successful for decades convincing many Americans that their LIES are the truth. Why it works: A single exposure to statements is typically enough to increase their perceived truth. This Truth-by-Repetition *TBR effect has long been assumed to occur only with statements whose truth value is unknown to participants. Results provide direct empirical evidence to the claim that repetition can⬆️perceived truth even for highly implausible statements: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/352787360_Is_Earth_a_Perfect_Square_Repetition_Increases_the_Perceived_Truth_of_Highly_Implausible_Statements

@KimPerales Truth by Repetition. I will test it.The earth is flat. The earth is flat. The earth is flat. The earth is flat. The earth is flat. The earth is flat.Wow! I can feel it deflating!Nah, I dunno. I'll try it on my grandkids when they get home but I think they'll give me a look and then run away and play. If only more adults had the good sense of 4-8 year olds. Even my grandson (4) knows the difference between good guys and bad guys. How come Kevin McCarthy can't figure it out?

@bkahn I didn't have the space to summarize their evidence, but I know it's been in effective indoctrinating the masses under authoritarian rule, esp. Hitler's. And given that TFG is still the leader of the Republican Party. *This study found repeating obviously false statements just 5 times increased their perceived truth, because they seem familiar: The Illusory Truth Effect.

@KimPerales Despite my feeble attempt at humor, I find the idea totally plausible. Unfortunately! Combine that with declining literacy (if people can read books but never do, how literate are they?), and a lack of skeptical thinking, and by golly, the earth is flat. Scary.
