Emeryville feels like an entirely made up place. 10% of the population lives above a shopping mall. Its primary industry is Pixar. There's a diner owned by the guy from Green Day. Trains from Chicago that are supposed to go to San Francisco terminate there instead. The primary tourist attraction is Ikea. This is all entirely implausible.

On a mostly unrelated note, who has the list of which Ikea sells the most Blahajs?

@mjg59 You were not making that up. I had never heard of the place (well, maybe heard the name, but never had any idea where it was).So I did what every curious person would do, I went to google maps and started looking at street view pictures of random locations. Every single place I looked fell into one of three categories:Straight roads lined with residential houses that looked like a scene from your random "housewife being unfaithful with the neighbour" movieStraight wider roads lines with office or industrial buildingsCar parksWith the risk of offending anyone who lives there, it sure looks like an terrible place.

@mjg59 and it was incorporated as a city to prevent Oakland or Berkeley from regulating the area’s many heavy industrial plants, brothels, bars, and gambling dens.

@mjg59 @ianholmes In the early aughts the IKEA was a blessing; only place in the Bay Area where one could find furniture with some angular features. Having moved on from the “IKEA phase” in Europe previously at least this offered some compromise to the absolute shitfuckery of U.S. furniture stores. Also, Köttbullar with bay view (under the freeway admittedly but again, not being picky here).
