       I just read a study on people leaving the church in the USA and I am astounded — not that people are leaving (I knew that) but why. Most people said they left because they just stopped believing. Okay. I get that. A smaller but significant fraction said they left because of unaccepting attitudes towards LGBTQ — not surprising! But 18% said they left because of a traumatic event that happened in the church. That’s nearly one out of five people who experienced something so terrifying in church that they simply could not bring themselves to return. Holy shit! What the hell is happening in church?!
