Intersectionality is so stupid.>Why disability inclusion discussions must involve intersectional voices such people of color and the LGBTQI+ community.

@Hyolobrika The idea is that each oppressed people group you belong to is a kind of magnifier for the type of oppression you have experienced and can speak to. A person who is only female, but straight and white has suffered very little oppression compared to a person who is of darker complexion and gay (even more points for trans).

@thatguyoverthere @Hyolobrika ... and then when you chuck that in a wheelchair, it's far more intersectional than a white dude who lost his arms in a plant accident in the same wheelchair.

@Hyolobrika@berserker.town In some cases, privilege in other areas can insulate you from the effects of one area of oppression.Sticking with the disability example, a well-off person with a certain disability may have more support than someone else with the same ailment. You're right that your specific example may not apply in all cases, but I don't think the concept is inherently bankrupt. Things like one's overall level of health, wealth and social/community support can go a long way in maximizing their ability to overcome all kinds of challenges. I'd argue the problem is that the progressive memeplex has poor proxies for understanding these things.

@jeremiahI get that, but what's the justification for involving race and sexuality in a discussion about disability issues (as per the quote in OP)?@thatguyoverthere

@Hyolobrika @thatguyoverthere ... i think they're trying to say that certain races and genders are disabilities.... or if they're not, what would they be saying differently?

@Hyolobrika @jeremiah given the context I would say it's because an intersectional champion can take the cause further than just some crippled veteran.

@thatguyoverthere @Hyolobrika @jeremiah no steelmanning occurred as intersectionality is stupid and everyone here knows itbut i think they argument has something to do with the idea that if you focus on disability issues without intersectionality it’s easy for structural racism sexism homophobia transphobia etc to seep in

@thatguyoverthere @Hyolobrika @jeremiah in other words, you have to remember to fight for all the special groups all the time otherwise ppl feel left out

@Hyolobrika i think the belief is that it's structural/everywhere/baked into our brains, so it always seeps in unless it's being actively fought against@thatguyoverthere @jeremiah

@hal @Hyolobrika @thatguyoverthere i think it's the idea that "we're already so racist we don't know we're racist" as in, "I don't know who first discovered water, but it wasn't a fish."However, in this case, it's not fish and water, but retards and excuses for their status in life as retards. These excuses must be protected at all costs, all the time, or they lose their magical powers.
