Some recent games need 8 to 12 GiB of VRAM, this is bad for enjoying games, but it means high-VRAM GPUs will soon become mainstream. A bright future for desktop GPU computing, early 2010s code can be ported directly to GPU without worrying about RAM size anymore.

@niconiconi I remember when games had all sorts of wild DirectX/OpenGL hacks and engine optimizations to achieve nicer graphics on limited hardware. The features in early Serious and Id Tech engines come to mind

@niconiconi I don't get how tyrant GPU's that refuse to work without signed, proprietary software are meant to give us a bright future, merely because the amount of VRAM on typical tyrant GPUs may increase.
