Is Nextcloud seriously claiming that open source AI is more likely to be ethical AI? Leaving aside the dubiousness of that claim, their blog announcement says they're using ChatGPT in the new Nextcloud release... isn't ChatGPT proprietary software? Am I missing something here??

@shibacomputer It's not just proprietary, it's a cloud service and it's enormous, it's too big for anyone to be able to run it on their own hardware even if it was available, so it's sending all the data to OpenAI.At most they could integrate a smaller model, which could run on a CPU, but very slowly, and the most capable LLaMA-based models can't be distributed freely, but even that probably wouldn't give you the results you'd want, so yeah...

@shibacomputer I guess nextcloud is still remaining open source, they're just adding an API integration, you'd be the one adding the token to use it. But we shouldn't integrate this into anything and promote a company that wants to keep making proprietary AI, we should wait until open solutions exist, and then think about it, if it makes any sense to add it in the first place, because I don't feel like it does here.
