it's interesting how they treat alcohol in southern Europe. it's just something you consume a moderate amount of when you have a meal. they don't get wasted much there because of that. and wine is also very cheap there.

@ringo the Nordic countries tend to follow a pattern where you have drinks on the weekends and young people throw wild parties. drinking in the middle of the week isn't too common. i think it's from Germanic culture. the frequent but modest drinking is more of a Latin/Roman thing.

@thor its interesting really especially if you look at prohibition culture of how drink is glorified in the west in film tv and music.i grew up not touching literally a drop until i was 21 and a half years old.i spent a few years living in a crap apartment near a bar. which played death metal at around 160bpm Mon-Fri 8pm -2am, and i could only fall asleep there if i was nearly disassociated from myself. so that was a bad coping mechanism, no amount of earplugs or doing other things seemed to fix it. i could hear literally the smoking patio from my BED. heh sigh.but! yeah that statement makes sense without thinking too much about it, i'm not aware of the customs and cultures, so cannot comment further on its validity. here in the west people worship the media and celebrity and all that horse hockey though. in high school all the kids were partying like crazy and i was just at home doing homework studying...in my 20s though i did go to warehouse parties but the focus among the people doing stuff was more in party drugs and hallucinogens and drink seemed a secondary afterthought that just was continually imbibed by the revelers to some degree or other.

@martenbjorklund @mxtthxw @thor yeah it sucked living at that place.ha.it would have been one thing if the music was good but they played 3 chord power guitar and only knew how to guttural scream. it was awful.

@thor and beer is something you drink when you are doing something else, not the reason to go to a bar/pub/...

@bufalo1973 @thor Beer is also more "fun": you can actually drink a decent amount of it before getting high/drunk compared to wine or liquors
