If we killed cringe culture, we need to take the next step and kill based culture too.

I want to elaborate on that. "Cringe culture" is defined by thinking something is worthy of mockery and shouldn't exist just because it's embarrassing or awkward to observe. It's magnified by an appeal to the norm. "Based culture" (not an actual term, I just made it up) would be the opposite - thinking something is worthy of repetition and praise just because it feels satisfying and resonates with you emotionally. And magnified by an appeal to uniqueness and rarity. It's a much more benign thing when applied to the whole spectrum of human experiences, but unfortunately, it has become too prevalent in political and social discourse. There are a lot of conflicting definitions of "based" in slang, ranging from "authentic and sincere" (which would make it heavily overlap with "cringe" in meaning) to "factual". But what most people mean when they call something "based" is just a risque and thrilling statement they want to co-sign. Popular, widely accepted opinions rarely get called "based". So the mechanic behind it is feeling strong fondness for what you see as a persecuted idea you share. Yet some unpopular ideas are unpopular for a reason - unpopularity of open xenophobia in many public spheres, for instance, is a result of long work of activists. Some progressive and liberating ideas are, unfortunately, equally unpopular, but is it worth making scarcity into a sign of value?
