@selea I don't know, man. I get that it's a problem. There's a lot of people there that can't help what's going on. Maybe we/other instances should try to start an info campaign to bring the issue into the light more or encourage people to consider moving instances? cause I'm gonna guess this spam bullshit is going to be a recurring issue for smaller instances like this one. Selfishly, I'd say I'd rather we didn't cause I follow cool people there, but if it's that bad, you do what you gotta do.

@selea Yeah I saw, seems like the best solution for the time being. Y'all should (if you can find the time that is) look into ways to drag this problem into Social/Eugen's "face", as it were. I feel like if a bunch of the smaller isntances banded together, all messaged at once or set up a petition or something, maybe they'd at least acknowledge it? I get that even over there it's kinda shoestring but they gotta get some more mods. Making it the default server in the official client wasn't smart.

@muppeth @selea that and general discontent over making mastodon.social the default instance on the official iOS app.But IHMO if you see nothing wrong with considering a centralised app store the primary discovery method for your decentralised social network, than you really have bigger issues than a pre-configured default instance on that one optional app in the centralised app store.

@selea @blackknight95857669 having read the wider discussion about this I would support co-ordinated silencing. Not really a long term solution but may help to drive mastedon.social to come up with something more oermanent.I did get what looked like a spam today. I Blocked the sender but failed to report it. Will do better next time and report first.

@selea I suggest to also have a plan for some kind of exit plan; say, maybe set up a reminder for a date half a year from now to un-silence in the hopes that they'll have got their act together then.

Silencing seems like a nice option.Plenty of people I follow already are on muted servers and the interactions certainly work good enough.If I needed/wanted an unmoderated instance, I would just switch.

@selea Wouldn't be a block better? Let those people who are seriously use Mastodon switch to another instance and block mastodon.social. If many admins would do this, bad managed instances wouldn't exist for a long time.

@selea I am in favour of a temporary muting of mastodon.social.I have been affected by the spam myself several times and it cannot be that the administrators of the many smaller instances and their users have to suffer from stupid decisions.I am not a friend of such restrictive decisions, but we must give the partners involved the time to take effective measures against the spam.

@selea I did get one pro-Russian spam video. However, I am pretty new to Mastodon, so I am still figuring out who to follow. If mastodon.social is silenced, wouldn’t that mean that I would never discover anyone to follow over there?So far, I like Mastodon a lot!
