I was thinking a long time that I'm not responsible of what a web service owner does or what other people do online, as long as I'm kind to others. I thought I can't help it if people are assholes. I can't affect the world being an ugly place. That was my rationale continuing using the site that wasn't that good in general.Nowadays I know how wrong I was. If you see misinformation, misbehaving people, discrimination, toxicity, you can naturally close your eyes and move on - In the digital world block, mute and report, that is. This is acceptable in those places you know something is to be done with the perpetrator.But on #Twitter for example, nothing is to be done with that as the whole culture is upside down. It's like folks are spending time in a Nazi club, in cubicles. Nobody will do anything with the reports. The violence will continue.We've seen continuous examples of discrimination, complete lack of moderation, trampling on minorities, toxic behavior, trolls, antisemitism, extremist activity and the latest: animal abuse. And all this is free and acceptable on Twitter.I can affect this. I can leave the place. And so can you. Leaving is a statement. Staying, using and feeding the algorithm is supporting all that shit. I never considered myself as an activist like this, but I feel strongly about Twitter changing. I used to love the place, but slowly and steadily it deteriorated for me. It's still hard for me to understand the once so good place turned into a pile of ash. And most of the people are still not realizing it.

@doot I kinda understand. I was forcibly using it for months after joining the Fediverse. I have made some Internet friends over there over the years, but on April I just decided to leave them all there. I decided to lose those people. It makes me sad sometimes, but life is letting go. I didn't know many of them personally and I can interact with them other ways (probably won't, but that's okay too).In many ways not using the commercial social media that much makes me an antisocial and a hermit. But I like it more than being around in a dark, dirty place.

@rolle I was just searching with only mastodon server names and seeing the users that followed over from Twitter I hung out with all the time and then seeing profiles that haven't posted since the first weeks of the Twitter Migration last fall when I clicked and opened them on their own instance.Searching for friends that haven't popped up.I was disheartened, to say the least.

I kinda feel frustrated in how a view the site nowadays when compared to before. How did I not see it?It's exactly like with alcohol. I reprogrammed myself and my eyes opened. I knew it was harmful but still kept using it. It's better now that I've been clean from all of it.

@rolle I honestly never enjoyed using Twitter, not really. None of the relationships you make there are meaningful as your followers are just numbers. I have my criticisms of Mastodon and still looking for a proper digital homestead but Twitter is honestly a lost cause, has been even before Elon got his grubby little hands on it.

@doot @rolle I’m in this boat, there are people that I wish to have some sort of connection with who will probably not use any other form of social media and I don’t want to lose that connection entirely just because Twitter is an obvious mess.I’ll nudge them about Fedi until the end of time 😂
