I dunno why "people using they/them as a default for NB people" became my berserk button but it has.

It's even worse when people use it as a default for everyone.

@Rasp Honestly I wish gender specific pronouns didn't exist at all. Not as much as I hate gendered words that have nothing to do with gender, but still.

@Rasp I thought it was already like that in literature though? I mean, using "them" when the gender of the person you're talking about is unknown doesn't seem recent to me, but I could be wrong.I do agree defaulting to they/them for non-binary people sucks though, but on the flip side I don't really know available alternatives...

@coroice in an unknown or hypothetical context is fine but like when you start talk about someone specific you know like that....well it kinda sounds like you're the racist aunt in mixed company like you wanna say f*g or n*gger but you don't wanna get called out on it.So its all insinuation like saying THEM you know THOSE PEOPLE.Like I get it. I'd rather you just call me the slur thanks.

@coroice for NB people we should just get to choose what we like and while I think they/them is a stupid choice its not really my business what anyone else likes. It only becomes my business when people assume "oh you're NB do you use the-" NO I DO NOT CAROL

@Rasp Ah, I get what you mean now. Yeah, that's definitely awkward...

@Rasp i mean I see it as like, another option to refer to people since that's how i was brought up/taught how to use itIdk tbh, I've not really understood the whole nonbinary-thus-uses-they-them-pronouns either
