@bleedingphoenix it's alright but I prefer emulation, extremely low input delay (with retroarch runahead) + color correction; like most gba games the colors were made to pop on the non backlit GBA screen, at most the GBA SP's relatively dim one, so they look kind of horrible on a brightly lit monitor or TV without adjustment.and personally I like playing with retroarch shaders because super low res pixel art made for a tiny LCD screen does not look good displayed raw on a high res display. I'm not a fan of the more accurate GBA LCD grid shader because it's like staring at a screen door but it is an option. Ideally I would play on an actual GBA screen but I'd rather not bother, playing with a Wii U pro pad also feels way better than a GBA or DS.lastly, emulator hotkeys like speed up and save/load state for practicing are great and there's no way I would have bothered doing 100pts runs of the games without that. Biggest advantage to LC by far is the ability to mod in Remastered Tracks arranges...it's a huge advantage but doesn't weigh out the cons for me. ZX also has the benefit of uncompressed voice acting but I find the audio mix itself to be completely horrible on headphones, and there's no adjustment options, so I also stick to emulating ZX/A.I also prefer to play with the restoration hacks because I like the blood (oil) sprite effect that was censored in the english versions of the games.

RetroArch is super easy to set up and load shaders in once you learn the interface and you'll never need to buy a collection of any roms ever again.MMZLC's biggest value add is no save states but infinite retry continue spots hand-added to each game which mitigate some of the bullshit but I'd say in MMZ3 (where the franchise finally figures out what a good game is supposed to look like) the save spots they add are TOO frequent. @bleedingphoenix The DS MMZ collection is very good, if you want to play on DS they're even better than playing GBA cause of removed slowdown and less compressed audio

@DrRyanSkelton @LittleTom @bleedingphoenix Shameless shill but one of the okay-est shader presets on retroarch that does look nice on gba games is the crt-faker set by your’s truly, it should run okay enough on a rasp pi 3 but i never tested it just on similarely powered hardware.

@LittleTom @DrRyanSkelton @bleedingphoenix well, i commit directly so as soon as it gets merged to the repo it should be possible to just update the shaders and get them but i gotta play with LUT values a little more, for some gamecube games i’m digging a 3x3 lut but for others like metroid prime 4x4 looks nice.

I need to revisit that series. I was obsessed with Mega Man when I was a kid. The NES/SNES games were awesome, X4/X5 on PS1 were quite good too. I remember buying one of those ZX games when it came out and it being pretty cool but I haven't played them all. It's too bad Capcom doesn't really do anything with Mega Man anymore.
