The only thing that will make them vote is Democrats differentiating themselves from the GOP sufficiently to make them want to. Are they currently different? Yes. Are they different ENOUGH that the average non-voter would be convinced that voting for either one would have a material impact on their lives? No. And yes, you can blame media for not highlighting some of those differences. But shouting us lefties down every time we accurately criticize Dems for being too similar to the GOP helps nobody except the high ranking Dem officials who really will be perfectly fine either way.

@barney @SallyStrange @accretionist @mailmamshawn @mkaragianis @JonChevreau You and Ben both oversimplify. People care about these things, even your demonized non-voters. What they see is a two-party system beholden to cash donors. One of those parties is, admittedly far better than the other, and yet we are still somehow on the fast track to authoritarianism. How is this happening? Is it because people aren't voting "hard enough"?

Connecticut: Democrats codified abortion rights in 1990. @Kirsty Your assumption is that voting makes a difference. That voting is substantive action that effects real change.In the U.S. electoral system, the only thing that makes any difference is money. If you don't have money, you're just out of luck. Voting isn't what makes the difference.
