       My best idea so far is one that just says “US Army.”Not “I am a proud veteran,” or anything over-patriotic just “US Army.”Main question is whether that would be stolen valor, myself not having served, though I have contracted for them, so wouldn’t feel like a total brand pirate.

       The brilliance of that is that it does not explicitly advertise that a gun can be earned by robbing this house. It just signals a high probability that the occupant of the house could kick your ass.

       @slypork Good one. Do not own a dog, but it’s a decent bluff anyway.More subtle version: one that shows a German Shepard on it. That’s all. Just a picture of a German Shepard. To ram home the message, combo with a sticker on the door telling fire fighters to save the dog(Would I go to hell for using that as a bluff deterrent?)

       @Cosmic The doormat isn't as important if you leave a muddy, well-worn pair of size 14 work boots by the door.  Make the creeps suspect that a big dude named Bubba might be inside.   Or hunting boots that imply Bubba might have a shotgun in there with him... If your own footwear doesn't fit the bill, hit the thrift store circuit.  Add the "Beware of Dog" doormat for extra credit.
