Especially if you've been subscribed to the Patreon for Low Quality Facts, let it be publicly known that they have been selling all of their "facts" as NFTs on opensea for Ethereum since August 2021. Their account been suspended from mstdn.social today, though they now have a new account at mastodon.social. This is a crypto scheme and, last I checked, they had a lot of followers around here.UPDATE: The account is back and still has the crypto link in the bio. Follow if you want but I hate the disingenuous nature of their existence here.

@sudaksis 1,172 items. it costs about 142 kWh to mint one. that's about 166,424 kWh just to mint all these nfts. the average household in the US uses 10,557 kWh per year, for reference.

@kitsunecafe 142 kWh seems to be the figure under proof-of-work consensus (pre September 15, 2022), nowadays it should be neglible but unfortunately it sounds like they started this back in 2021..

@sudaksis Hey, just came across this on my timeline. In short, I think NFTs are generally very dumb, and just use them as a silly way that people can support my project if they're into that. Aside from having a link to my OpenSea page on my account here, I have never promoted, advertised, or ever told people to buy them on here. If anyone asked me if they could make money buying them I would have no hesitation in telling them that I sincerely doubt it, so I'm not sure what the issue is here.

@sudaksis Any comment, @sudaksis? This has been a really active thread so I'm probably not the only one interested in hearing from you now that LQF has responded. I'm not looking for a fight. I just need more info before I know how I feel about this. I'm sure others feel the same way. (I'm not trolling and I'm not calling anyone out, btw) @lowqualityfacts

@lowqualityfacts @sudaksis So, I’m gonna take the second to reply;First off as a bunch of people have noted, NFT aren’t just silly, they’re actively wasteful.Secondly, they’re so linked with scammers that (because it’s a scam) it leave a stink & no detergent gets it out. Finally, doing shit with NFT’s ironically basically just isn’t possible because of the two above. It basically just falls into the @Popehat “Rule of Goats” https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rule%20of%20goats
