Given the ridiculous marketing and price of Hi-Fi audio, I'm surprised that no company makes Hi-FI amplifiers with a cyrocooler to run at liquid nitrogen or helium temperature for Johnson noise reduction for "pure sound".

@niconiconi probably because cooling mechanisms tend to rely on compressors that make a lot of noise

@niconiconi@mk.absturztau.be The pumps for the cooler would probably create too much electrical interference. :P

@niconiconi@mk.absturztau.be I'd imagine that it's a bit tough to combine vacuum tubes and cryogenic temperatures

@chjara @niconiconi reminds me that IIRC water transmits sound better than air.Get in your wetsuit, we're going to listen to some great vinyls in the audio pool.

@hj@shigusegubu.club @lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me @chjara@snowdin.town Water is a pretty good medium for sound transmission. The human ear is not matched to its characteristic impedance though.

@lanodan @niconiconi its frequency response probably doesn't matter at audio frequencies (not that that has ever stopped audiophiles lol), but it does have a Much faster speed of sound, liquids and solids tend to since they are much less compressible so pressure waves propagate faster

@chjara @niconiconi Meaning an audiophile concert should be in water for the least lag possible.
