Extraordinary Attorney Woo: I’m a quarter of the way through it, and so think it’s very good. It’s funny, smart, heartbreaking and well-written (or at least, well-subbed). It’s a Korean series about a young, autistic woman who’s a legal genius, but it doesn’t overdo (and indeed addresses) the idiot-savant trope. In my experience, the portrayal(s) of autistic people are very well done. Woo reminds me a lot of a girl a few years below me at school, and the other (so far) autistic character is a lot like a couple of young adult men I know. Tbh, I’m finding the autistic characters a lot more understandable than some of the neurotypical ones, but I suspect that’s down to my lack of knowledge about Korean professional society/manners. I still haven’t figured out what the love interest’s job actually is: paralegal? Worth a watch.

On an entirely personal note, Woo is making me feel very self-conscious. I recognise an awful lot of her mannerisms, although I don’t think… no, I’m sure… at least, I hope that I’m not so noticeable/obvious in my performance of them. I think it’s a good portrayal of a high-functioning autistic young woman in a stressful professional services environment.

@Flick and I've met you twice now I think? No your not noticeable, so don't worry I suspect its because you recognise your internal monologue nd some mannerisms, rather than external people seeing similarities x

@UrbanGardener Oh, phew. Thank you. Mike said he’s not seen it but had heard it was good, and I’m pretty sure it was innocuous but wondered if someone had hinted at him. xx

@Flick I love that your watching this!!! It's such a good show, and yes he's in essence a paralegal.Feel free to talk to me about the show. There are elements I love, like the whale talk, but I'm not keen on the whale imagery! They are making a second season and it's being adapted in multiple countries including america I believe.

@UrbanGardener I do think it’s great. The whale stuff is kinda weird, but I think it does get the point over. I love the way the textbooks appear behind her.

@Flick your welcome.Yes it will just be a coincidence, it was a huge show when it came out, huge global audiences. Hence all the adaptions and second series (rare in k drama world)I read recently that 60% of global netflix subscribers have watched at least 1 k drama, so netflix is investing 2.5billion over next 10yrs into more k content

@UrbanGardener @Flick I've watched 3 and I like them. I was going to look at Queenmaker as well as extraordinary attorney Woo. I've watched Birth Center, Little Women and a kind of silly historical one, Alchemy of Souls.

@TheWitchBitch @UrbanGardener @Flick The K dramas are the only things I can watch now. Mostly devoid of woke crap. I read that over 90% of screenwriters in Korea are women (despite the country being ehhh towards women in general) so that's probably why they're good.

@Morbidemoness it's all I watch too! The quality of cinematography and character development is just so far above American shows. @TheWitchBitch I've been told queen maker is good and have it on my watch list so definitely give it a go. I liked Aos, but it's not my favourite, I'd recommend crash landing on you (same female lead as 39) and suspicious partner. @Flick join us and start a new show after this!
