So here’s a question I hope to answer today:Can I figure out how to replace the battery in my iPhone 3GS? 👀I’ve already removed the old battery as it had swollen so much that the display got pushed out. Now it’s time to insert a new battery.

First screw loosened and we’re now inside the phone. There’s no battery as I removed that months ago when it started to become swollen to (hopefully) prevent it from destroying the phone.

The screen is now completely off. Had to disconnect three cables: one for the display, one for the capacitive touch panel, and one that I do not know what’s doing 🤷♂️

Hopefully 🤞 the motherboard and camera is back in place now. Getting the camera back in was quite a struggle so I hope it’s properly placed. Time to put the display back on.

So the display is doing *something* but I don’t know if it’s good or bad. Notice that the display is turning slightly darker half way into the video and then brightening up again a bit.

Took the display off and put it back on. Now it shows the "Empty battery" screen when blinking. At least there's progress 🪫👀

Now it shows the “Empty battery” screen reliably when I press the power button. That makes me think that either:1. It just needs to charge for a few hours.2. Or the battery was not installed correctly.I’ll leave it in the charger for a while and cross my fingers it’s no. 1 🤞

Progress! 👀 The message in the background says that charging isn’t supported with this accessory but the phone seems to getting charged. I’ll leave it in for a few more hours.

The camera app isn’t working though. The skeuomorphic shutters never disappear to show the camera feed. I’ll try to disassemble the device again and see if I can get it working.

iOS 6.1.6, which my iPhone 3GS runs, doesn’t suppor two-factor authentication so I had to log into iMessage with an app-specific password 😄
