I’m not that old and in my lifetime, Republicans have crashed the economy twice.GOP-controlled states are the worst off in the country. And yet, I’m supposed to believe the narrative Republicans are better for the economy than Democrats.People need to wake up and understand that Republicans will have no problem holding the US hostage They did it for 4 years under Trump, and we barely survived. What If Republicans Actually Want a Debt-Default Disaster?:https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/05/what-if-republicans-actually-want-a-debt-default-disaster.html

@TonyStark So true. The myth of right-wing fiscal responsibility serves the corrupt and the filthy rich. Time and again the data shows a repeating pattern. The right-wing causes enormous economic and social damage. This is passed on to the next government, the left and center left, who fix or begin to fix it, until the right-wing gains sway again with their lie. Shatter this myth! :mastodon:

@TonyStark I remember my father always said he was a Rep because he was “fiscally conservative” and he fully believed that “tax-and-spend” Dems were bad for the economy. It seemed like no one was analyzing the data to see how the economy responds to the way the parties govern. Today, we have evidence that Dems grow the economy at a higher rate than Reps in office. Yet the misguided belief by middle class Reps continues. @TonyStark This is the biggest sign that the GOP are gaslighters, or that many in the population are poorly educated (thanks to the GOP). The economy is always better under Dem leadership.

@soc_i_ety @TonyStark Republicans candidates are trying to cast themselves as better for the economy because abortion is a radioactive issue for them. But there’s a problem—G.D.P., jobs and other indicators have ALL risen faster under Democrats for nearly the past century. #GOPLiars #GOPFrauds #VoteBlueIfYouWantToProsperWhy Are Republican Presidents So Bad for the Economy? | GIFT LINK | 02-FEB-2021 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/02/opinion/sunday/democrats-economy.html?unlocked_article_code=55kbxLZ4URg7dOjR6yKZU7C90dn6bbyxT_k0z5MDxn4HB1lRD77W_6f8e9isPkoWGGle5L7Jozzv03L0YswBI4vAV4-8N-LSvhhSGi9mDzgJe7SwUMn84FVpGjjAf8W4t59I4Uz2AH0VAW6b_LXBkQkkwAeUJf-Sl4TBddWuHjK83rT7KMywpXr6IHMtF1sqzIJBDBBOGLl1lWw9RHhuCZXc30elMM07zLHPMX2ERDwNHxYgbau_cFyE7w0tKuKohsDIPV5ULC-I9ijLz0dAMhhBXmH_Jn8oNwwx81PZMry_TgYEMgkQEYcXMQUH4t4z20-IX1NgEKXva_muj3IV6b1a&giftCopy=0_NoCopy&smid=url-share

@TonyStark Of course they want to tank the economy. That way they can blame Biden and the Democrats, point and say "look what terrible things the Dems have done!" And the idiot republican voters who let Fox News and OANN tell them how to think, believe it. Plus with all the gerrymandering and voter suppression they can keep Dems out for a very long time. Win-win!

@TonyStark Republicans have been selling the same product successfully since Reagan (except for a slight hiccup in George HW Bush's run at a second term). The thing about right now is that most of them are Trump's lemmings.

@soc_i_ety @TonyStark To help with that goal, here's something helpful I attended yesterday - a talk from Simon Rosenberg at the Hopium Chronicles Blog, titled "With Democrats Things Get Better - May 2023" https://simonwdc.substack.com/p/with-democrats-things-get-better-9fc The talk gives clear, fact-checkable talking points on how policies under Democratic presidents and Democratic administrations overwhelmingly out-perform those under Republicans. It covers the economy, job creation, much-needed advancements in healthcare for anyone not a white male, reductions in abortion needs - all topics that R's are using to "message" that their platform is superior. Nope, Democrats are moving the needle more on those issues, and you can support that assertion.

@TonyStark Of course GOP want to destroy the US govt. any way they can. That's their entire goal: end democracy and install their annointed autocrat.Make no mistake: they will do anything to take power permanently. Ending our Constitutional democracy is key, by whatever means necessary. See #Jan6

@TonyStark It's worse than you think/thought, Tony. As Thom Hartman discussed a week ago or so, the filthy rick YEARN for another depression, which will hurt 95% of Americans but will further enrich the filthy rich. WHY? Because they will watch the stock market fall, and then they will buy at the lowest prices knowing that the rebound will cause them to increase their funds by anywhere between 20-50%. It happened that way when Bush crashed the economy in 2007. In that scenario, I suppose the Repubs will increase their own holdings somewhat and think to hell with everyone else because it's only themselves they care about. carry on
