@mushroom_soup I'm just wondering... is this bad because the concept itself is flawed or could they have actually made a 3D Little Mermaid work somehow?That just looked a generic marine life documentary with a niggermaid and a crab. I'm wondering... why were they going for 3D realism? Why did they make Sebastian a realistic crab with crab positioned eyes but a cartoon human eye shape? Why not just make him a 3D rendering of his 2D self like in Kingdom Hearts?What is the point of this? Is the idea that the renderings will be realistic but the "magic" will be in the animation? @PonyPanda they could have made it just plain CGI a la finding nemo and it would have been fine. the problem is that they for whatever reason are being sticklers to realism at the expense of the animal characters actually being able to emote (like the terrible lion king live action remake). another issue is that it's just really difficult in general to make a live action movie that is set underwater for more than, like, a few minutes. this movie was shot dry-for-wet, aka the majority of the underwater scenes were shot on land, with things like her hair being cgi. it is possible for this to work but it requires a large CGI budget and not the overworked, creatively bankrupt team at disney. i think this is why the cgi looks so bad, we can instinctively tell things aren't moving like they actually would underwater. even things like the way the light shines through the water and distorts colors doesn't look correct. the other option is shooting wet-for-wet, which was done in for example avatar 2. it's obviously incredibly labor intensive and expensive and requires finding a cast of people willing to learn how to hold their breaths for minutes at a time. the end result is so much more realistic though. cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/free-diver-avatar-way-of-water-kate-winslet-1.6692890

@PonyPanda also a good example of why they should have made her hair redder, so it would have shown better underwater (red tends to get washed out underwater)

@LisbonMuse @mushroom_soup stuff like this actually makes them less profit so the motive here is beyond profit. it falls in line with the genocide and replacement of whites and the media and entertainment industry is simply following suit. The physical replacement of whites is happening via replacement immigration so the next stage is to replace all the media for a future where whites no longer exist.

That's a good point. It really dulls everything up too, there's no contrast like the pretty White skin does in the first. I mean I get it's a cartoon but even if you compare to that redhead in Aquaman, she doesn't have the same problem as this Ariel.
