The word "hill" just started looking weird and unwordlike to me. I hate it when that happens!#AmEditing

@grammargirl Oh, god that happens to me most frequently with the word THE. I'll look at it and think no way is that a word.

@grammargirl I’m sure there’s some German word for what this happens, and it happens to me way more often than it should. It’s always vaguely unsettling when it does happen, where I’m completely broken in some way (beyond my normal level of brokenness)

@grammargirl I can't unsee the mini hill within the word. Like once you get over the ascender of the first letter, the part that extends up, you catch a little break before you have to get over the last two letters.#HelpMe

@grammargirlSemantic satiation is one of the more annoying occupational hazards of editing! It got me the other day when I was editing oodles of briefing notes about similar subjects. 😵‍💫

@grammargirl I think you may have been experiencing gestaltzerfall, a.k.a. “shape decomposition." I first learned of this term from a volume of the manga Saint Young Men.

@grammargirl Problem is that "hill" looks like a valley. It'd be better if it were spelled illh so it looked more like a hill, maybe.

@grammargirl I had a bad case of this about 15 years with the word ‘stomach’. It stuck for long enough to be quite unnerving.
