@Bman Lots wrong, lots to do yet, but we’re a huuuuuge city and have made great progress, give it sec. Still waiting on some method of remediating bike incidents when cars are making legal right turns on green across the (usually blind) protected lanes. That shit is scary whether you’re the one on the bike or in the car. Was super encouraged to see they turned the gross taxi pull-through on the west side of GCT into a meadow and seating. #nyc

@goodthinkingYes! The pedestrian plazas around GCT are awesome.And I agree that turning cars and trucks across a protected bike lane is a huge issue.I think a couple things that would help:- Real bollards to force wide turns- paint the bike lane all the way through the intersection

@Bman Hear, hear. I may be stepping into it, but I want speed limits posted for e-bikes. It is routine now to get into it with the food delivery scooters going 30 mph in the bike lane, running lights all the way.

@goodthinking From what I've been told about food delivery workers, the job is so difficult and low paying, that they have to really scramble just to make ends meet.I would love to see wage protections for deliveristas and maybe change their incentive structure. I think this would go a long way.

@Bman Total agree. I see those mitts duct-taped to the handlebars so their hands don’t freeze and it wrenches me. But safety is safety, and no one comes first, you know?

@Bman And I mean this as a pedestrian, as someone who has a busted ass 12mph e-scooter, and a tiny car. The protected lanes are an unfinished design.

@Bman Indeed and agreed. I moved back here specifically to make sure I could be honest about what I felt and said about folks, five years ago, and have not looked back. It’s heaven. Sunset Park people are good to each other, and yet hardly anyone speaks the same language, or worships at the same dumb altar. I don’t order delivery often (not much vegan here yet), maybe every few months, but I respect the economy and buy local, always.

@goodthinking @Bman I’d like to see the cost of the bike borne by the restaurants (?VC-apps?). And then the charging of high quality batteries — and throttling, perhaps at 20mph based on above — could be done in a way that doesn’t hurt the lowest paid workers. There might evolve a standard, quality deliverista bike — Like a Bike equivalent of ToyotaCamry for Uber.Wasn’t a popular idea on Reddit — folks wanted me to learn that low-paid restaurant workers must bring their own tools to work.
