So the weird safari bug where it loses the honk cookie seems related to leaving the tab open. And just now it happened, but I closed the tab, and came back later, and the cookie worked. Filing under not my problem.

@tedu Isn’t this just Safari’s tracking protection working as advertised? After 7 days of non-interaction, cookies and storage get wiped.https://artsy.github.io/blog/2022/08/23/getting-around-7-day-cookie/ suggests that using setting secure and HTTPOnly on the cookies will avoid the deletion (but I cannot verify nor vouch for this personally.)

@zimpenfish I think it's more complex or subtle than that. Sometimes it happens a lot just in one day.

@tedu I've had something similar in Firefox this past week. I stay logged in a majority of the time but a sometimes a new Honk tab appears to be logged out. A new Honk tab after that is logged in.

@tedu I get similar behavior in my janky progressive web app in chrome that didn't used to happen. I assumed it was because I don't know how PWAs work.

The lost cookie seems correlated with how many times I click the refresh button, so maybe safari sees that as tracking activity.
