@timbray YES. And especially, how it let you cycle through the photos on a target page of a link, or choose not to send any photo at all with a link if you so desired!

@lauren big time. Circles were the greatest.I used to be quite the evangelical for Google products, that ended with the demise of G+.

@lauren @timbray Sounds like the amazing photo sharing features of Austin Chang’s startup The Fridge that was acquihired into G+ https://www.businessinsider.com/google-makes-its-first-aquisition-and-buys-social-group-startup-fridge-2011-7?amp

@lauren I mostly miss what it could have been, before they tried to turn it into something the same as everything else.

@revmem A big part of the problem was the early attempt to turn it into an "identity" platform. Later, there was the awful mistake of conflating Google+ and YouTube comment systems. Don't get me started on that one.

@lauren So much! Mastodon feels a little like it, at least, much more than Twitter ever did. Another case of Google building something which is actually pretty good, then getting bored with it.

@lauren It proved why we can't have nice things. Everything that everybody wanted was there, and it just doesn't work at scale above a few (large, but sharing common purpose and interest) cliques. It was social media Camelot.

@lauren The quality of info was so much better. Especially the "Science!" circle I followed, which had a few hundred scientists posting actual science stuff.

@lauren I absolutely miss Google Plus. I had a great group of friends and scientists. No Trolls, no drama. Then Google axed it, and everyone scattered to the four winds, never to meet again.

@nyrath There were some trolls. I had close to 400K followers. Believe me, at that level there are trolls.
