Now I have used /e/ OS as my daily driver for my mobile phone for a few weeks. It is a free open source software based on the open Android, from e.foundation. I replaced the original Google-Android + Samsung addons with /e/. It works generally well! #openSource #FOSS #eos

@hehemrin I'm actually thinking of giving it a good go on my old #GalaxyS9 phone (which I still have after upgrading to an S22). What's the process like, to install?

@torspediaI also installed on a S9. They have an "easy installer" sw for some models, S9 one of them. I had some issues to get the installer to work, failed for me on Debian, on Windows but worked well on macOS. Step by step in the tool. I did not check the log for reasons. Only available as snap for linux, if you are not more advanced. Should also be possible to install w/o easy installer. Good luck!

@torspedia On Debian, the Easy installer never detected the phone, for unknown reason. I had not used snap before, so I had to install that first, if it may have been something with snap configuration, I don't know.

@hehemrin that is good to know, ta. It is certainly something to bear in mind as I am wanting to use my S9 to try these alternatives. Just have to fully unlock my phone first!

@hehemrin I used /e/ for about a year back in 2020/2021 and liked the os but found the update process buggy. Maybe they've fixed that by now.

@PublicLewdness I have had one system update, that one went well and smoothly. So good, so far in my case.

Issues with /e/ OS: 1Password app where I should use QR code for activation failed, needed to do it manually. Another app could manage QR code. Secondly, heard from another person that for the Swedish BankID app activation he needed to use NFC, which did not work in that app (luckily I did not need to do that step for my activation). I think both these issues might be related to the fact that the microG services that tries to mimic Google services cannot mimic to 100%.
