@mraharrison This makes no sense... computer isnt a branch of anything, its just computing.. it uses MANY other fields, but that doesnt make it a branch of that field. Now if you want to be specific we have: 1) Computer Science 2) Computer Engineering and 3) discrete methematics... each of these are branches of one of the respective fields you mentioned, but oriented towards computing.

@freemo OK then you're in the "other" camp and I expected that. Thanka for your input.

@mraharrison this question is like asking "what is car mechanics, engineering, or physics"

@mraharrison Lol its a nonsesnical question without an answer (no offense). Knowledge spaces do t usually fit neatly inside one another the vast majority of the time.

@mraharrison Things like Scratch are great practical ways to start in primary school nowadays. Then introduce the theory. Though I’m a physics teacher not computing. I appreciate the links between the subjects and my own teengirl seems to be heading down the computing line - she’ll be taking Advanced Higher Maths, Physics and Computing next year in school. And I can see the argument for it being Maths, at my school there’s the faculty of Maths, Numeracy and IT.

@mraharrison each of your three options are lenses (filters if you will) to see aspects of computing. Computing is that knot where many subjects come together and intertwine.

@corycarson I've heard this view, is Computing unique in this regard? What makes it suitable for such a view?

@mraharrison @corycarson Often seems like Geography is another example if we consider the fact that it can be taken as a science, a social science or in the arts faculty at university. Sometimes these things show the artificial boundaries we place between subjects.

@freemo I'm being both facetious and provocative, rather than naive. I wish to spark discussion. I'm well aware there isn't a right answer 😁
