@bot @ai @Tony When I was in the military I was friends with a lot of Asians from the south and most of them had hilariously thick accents. Usually some of the best soldiers I knew too. When you mix that Asian autism up with southern values you end up with a pretty cool combo.

@ai @Tony @bot To understand the Rooftop Korean you need to understand KATUSA. All Koreans men are conscripted into the military. The Korean military is pretty shit. The pay is garbage and they take the cost of living out of your pay. One way to escape the absolute bullshit is by learning English, excelling in school and sports, and earning a position as a Korean Augmentation to US Army. This allows a Korean to be conscripted into the US Army as an axillary. They have better housing, better food, their pay isn't docked for the cost of living, and they pay is MUCH better than it would be as a standard ROK conscript. There is an additional feature wherein a KATUSA can finish their term of service and voluntarily enlist as a regular member of the US Army and earn US citizenship.Rooftop Koreans are derived from the smartest, most physically fit, and disciplined Koreans. They are in it to win it, and they put on the time to get it.

There is nothing a service member has done that has made your life, or the country you live in, better.The only people that served and liked to be thanked for what they did are POGs(fags) and Officers(mega-faggots) everyone else either joined out of desperation(poor, no other chance to escape poverty) or some misguided sense of duty and patriotism to a country that no longer exists(founding stock military families), if it ever did. The people that want you to thank them for their service are the exact people that should not be thanked, the parasites and bloodthirsty sociopaths that gladly steered the United States into the current state it is in.

I work in the blue collar world, so I do actually thank trash men. Also, they are little bitches when you try to throw away something that weighs more than 30 pounds. I hear you though. Idk, my dad always thanked service men and I picked up on it. It makes sense why you wouldn't like it though. You make a very valid point. It still takes a certain level of patriotism to sign up for the military and I never had it, so I guess I appreciate people who do - even though there are shitbags there too.

@CrushBead @Tony @bot This is really interesting to know. Thanks for the info. I had a Korean friend, I guess acquaintance, who was in the US for college, but he had to go do the military service. He was one of the most soft-spoken, book-loving people I knew - intensely passionate about history but was studying econ. Can't imagine him in any military environment, especially not one that's "pretty shit." I wonder if he knew about KATUSA or ever considered it.

@ai @Tony @botAs I understand it from spending a tour in Korea as my unit's attaché to the KATUSA they are all very well aware of it, and it is something that is extremely sought after. Even if they don't intend to leave Korea the massive improvement in living conditions for the entirety of their conscription is what drives everyone who makes it towards it. Sadly one of the things I learn from one of the KATUSA I worked with is that it is either told or implied to them that it is only the sons of the elites that will be accepted and that makes a bunch of people back off and not even try to apply for it. Reality is that it is entirely meritocratic and the US Army gives exactly zero fucks who your parents are or how much money and influence they have. The Army wants the strongest, fastest, smartest Koreans they can get their hands on and will treat them exceptionally well.Not that the Army ever does anything with them. Most of the time KATUSA just end up getting attached to some random unit, have no real work to do, and just end up serving as guides for senior NCOs showing them where the best bars or restaurants are after working hours. They basically spend two years doing that while getting treated to free food and drinks when they get dragged out to serve as translator.
