@tensob_ @Gargron @mattferrell By design, PeerTube does not directly include monetization such as ads. That said, each creator is more than welcome to enable the "monetization" option for their channel to link to Patreon, merch sites, etc.

Smaller, more niche creators who don't post as often can't rely on subscribers' payments because they can't create enough content to attract subscribers.There needs to be a platform-wide monetization solution for this, such as revenue sharing, which YouTube Premium offers to partnered channels.#peertube #monetization #youtube #content

@tensob_ @PublicLewdness @Gargron @mattferrell Realistically, smaller niche creators aren't making any reasonable income on YT via revenue sharing anyway. That's assuming they can even get over the initial monetization hurdles Google puts in place.At the end of the day, just post your content to both. Pick a #PeerTube instance and then upload it to YT and mirror the content on PeerTube. Most people viewing content in the fediverse won't watch YT anyway, so they're not losing any audience.

@tilvids @PublicLewdness @Gargron @mattferrell What do you mean by a "reasonable income"?I used to manage a YT channel of a nonprofit org. here in Czechia, that organises art camps for children. By monetizing the channel with videos from the camps the org. got additional money that enabled us to get new mirrorless cameras for the camp. Although I'm not a hater, can't hardly see a subscription model being applied for this...

@tensob_ @PublicLewdness @Gargron @mattferrell YMMV and cost-of-living is a factor. Most creators I've talked to in North America are pretty underwhelmed by their revenue-sharing with YouTube, generally giving them less than minimum-wage for the effort they put in.Regardless, it costs creators nothing to have a PeerTube instance and mirror the content.
