@KFuentesGeorge What's the motivation to work if everyone gets free homes, or free food and medical care? With that said, what we should be doing is providing mental health services for those homeless who need it, and "REAL" opportunity for those homeless for other reasons. A simple "everybody is entitled to free...." is a losing economic proposition. Temp housing to access and provide help or opportunity is OK, free ride, unless you're planning to pay for it....not so much.

@marleybits39@mastodon.world @KFuentesGeorge@universeodon.com You know, it's interesting to me that many people worry that "if everyone had enough to survive, they wouldn't want to work, so we can't let that happen", but you don't hear often that we should abolish the rich. If someone who has the necessities won't contribute to society, then what about someone who has a million bucks? Why is it ok if they don't need to work? Because work under #capitalism is inequality and exploitation. Because some people need to be forced to work, under the threat of being denied of even what's necessary to live, so that others can have a million or a billion dollars.Basically what you said is in support of a system that literally threatens a part of the population's lives, so that they are forced to work and make wealth for another part of the population, who aren't under the same threat.

@ShekinahCanCook @SallyStrange I mean, to expand on your point, all Americans have "access" to "readily available" medical care. *However...*Also, if you extend the "lazy bums" argument to health care, nations with robust universal health care should have populations with *worse* health, as *of course* the knowledge that one will not be burdened with care costs would lead them to make risky health decisions. I haven't looked, but I get the impression that's not what happens.
