I am a student of history, and the historical significance of UK coronations reaching back more than a 1000 years is impossible to overstate. That said, in a time when so many British people can't even pay their energy bills, the discontinuities of seeing such pageantry are impossible to ignore.

@lauren I’d argue that, in the context of the last 1000 years, this is substantially less incongruous than typical.

@pjfasano Yes, I noted the bonuses that were made available to the standard rations in honor of the coronation, in another post. Rationing ended completely there the next year.
