After talking about it with my Patreon supporters, and here on Mastodon, I decided to stop publishing to Odysee. @thelinuxEXP leaving the platform seems like a good decision but claiming cryptocurrency has little to no use and the industry has crumbled is like a Windows user claiming nobody uses Linux.There are many people working hard and building great things in the crypto industry even if many people are using it for scams. Many people are using it daily for many different things.

@TheVoyageur At least as a currency, it’s utterly worthless. Scams aside, the very speculation makes it totally unsuitable for purchasing anything. Blockchain related projects, sure I can see a use. Crypto currencies? Not so much!

I mean all these right wing content creators have been pumping out video after video about trans people being pedophilic groomers, saying that "transgenderism" should be "erradicated from public life", yet they are still on the platform, profiting off the platform, and being boosted by the algorithm.. I remember being pushed right wing content constantly during gamergate, especially.

@Lukako Maybe my perspective was too biased by the recommendations I get, which never contained any of this content.I should have said “has less potential”, because at least there are terms of service, and some content does get removed, compared to Odysee where anything goes.

The thing that scared me about odysee is that their TOS has a full liability disclaimer. If someone sues them because of you, you accept all the liability and you agree to pay all their legal bills. That's messed up

@thelinuxEXP you should always do what you are comfortable withI do currently watch on Odysee but I've been following TLE on YT for years before thatI will look into TILVids for my tech stuff too because it seems a decent alternative esp given that I have no income to lose out on for those videosI'll keep my gaming content off Peertube for now because its quite file size heavy compared to my tech

@chrisdoestech @thelinuxEXP TILvids is a great place to share tech videos. It has a much better community, and it's easier to get views than on Odysee.

@thelinuxEXP The problem I see with a lot of YouTube alternatives is that many of them are filled with hate by people who got their content banned from YouTube.I haven't seen much of this at all on Fedi, but that's likely because the same kinds of people getting hated are the people populating the instances. That's why mastodon.lol shut down instead of being transferred ownership since it was basically "a database of minorities" as the owner wrote.

@thelinuxEXP Good riddance. Odysee, outside of a few, is just the video version of Parler. It probably had good intentions to start with, but it did not end up with the same goals. That's the problem with a platform that claims "free speech". People think that free speech is a given right to say every horrid thing that they can think of. There are limits to that right and your rights can be taken away if deemed necessary.

@thelinuxEXP Fantastic write-up and reasoning Nick. Before starting TILvids, I had similar feelings about Odysee, and always felt where it has ended up was inevitable.I truly do think #PeerTube is the best way forward. Not every instance will be perfect, but I think the IDEA of instances is perfect. For TILvids, that means I want the community to have a strong sense of ownership and direction, growing large enough to be a strong entry point, but small enough for the community to self-direct.

@tilvids Exactly. The advantage of Peertube is that it can work for the most extreme free speech enthusiasts, but it can also serve people who think some moderation is necessary.Having instances is great, it’s the best way to build a content website / social network IMO.

It's hilarious how many people left comments on our Mastodon video saying 'it's taken over by the woke left'Like my goodness...just do a BASIC WEB SEARCH of how Mastodon works so you can have the bare minimum understanding to know how stupid you sound when you think a federated platform can be 'taken over' by any particular demographic. It's the closest thing to a public high school for the internet. Niches in the same place.

You were conflating people who are genuinely interested in protecting our freedoms with those who use it as a convenient excuse to spread their bigotry, though.
