People who often do the most dangerous, dirty or wrecking jobs are getting paid crap while CEO's who actually don't do much earn millionsIt's absurd and wrong that CEO's make millions, they do not deserve this in any way"Yes but they have build up the company" you might say..But guess who did the building for them, the people who earn crap.

@stux What's even worse than CEOs are shareholders. They often do absolutely nothing exept for having some money invested, yet they benefit from profit distribution.

@stux the whole system of money as compensation / apprecciation for work is totally fucked up, because it only values if you can make more money for shareholders or owners of a company, while really important and / or life saving work is paid like crap :/

@stux If a business makes $40 bn a year that has 7000 employees, an equal division would be $5.71 mn per year. Obviously, there’s overhead & expenses to be added into that equation but when you consider many huge corporations in #usa pay no tax, pay less than $20 an hour to most employees, no benefits & huge CEO bonuses …… #capitalism #inequity #socialism #workersrights

@stux it is not about who builds it, but who owns means. It always have been a problem - before capitalism, it was called differently, but same thing.People who hoard resources always will come at defense of this system. They can't think otherwise, their minds are set differently and not easily changed.

@stux I think I heard that when GenY was first going out into the workforce, too. A couple of years later it was all about ā€œhustle cultureā€ and ā€œgirl bossā€ stuff. But with the boomers retiring, maybe GenZ is in a better position to negotiate.

@stux I wonder if this might boil down to simple supply and demand in the labor market. When worker supply is plentiful (with a large underlying demographic such as USA Boomers), there are always some workers who will obey employers just to keep jobs. Employers exploit this and therefore call the shots, so to speak. When worker supply shrinks, then labor can take the upper hand. I am not an economist but I have observed supply and demand as a strong factor.

@stux if you wanted good pay, longer vacation periods and a good retirement check you had to be a boomer or at least a gen x like me. the good retirement check for me is a mirage though since I left work years ago and I have no intention to start again. as I told you once the pay was fair, >5 paid vacation weeks per year and severance when I left.

@stux okay gonna be the discordant mf here. CEOs ARE needed. They are an essential part of the leadership in a company, and the supposed piece that abstracts and connects all layers, inside and outside, to be able to develop the best business strategies possible. They also hold the ultimate responsibility within the group when there are mistakes.

@stux people would have less trouble with CEOs earning millions when the company was successful, if they got zero or even fined when the company fails.Right now a corporation is like a passenger ship with lifeboats for the captain and officers, but not for the crew or passengers. And the officers all get a bonus if they ship arrives early. If they wreck, the officers abandon ship with their money and everyone else sinks. That's what makes people angry about CEOs.

@stux under capitalism we are paid not based on the value we contribute or the unpleasantness of our labor, but rather based on our negotiating power versus our employer's. With stagnant wages and the housing crisis holding a homelessness shaped gun to all of our heads it's really only a matter of time before we're all at the bottom. The capitalists are going to kill us if we let them.

@stux If we set the maximum marginal rate for earnings over $10M to 99%, I guarantee employers will give those earnings back as increased wages for employees and savings for customers (rather than give it to the government in taxes). Also, every business should have a built-in profit sharing model.

@stux What the CEOs don't seem to realize is that without customers, they're without a company. Alienate enough of them and that's what happens.

@stux lolol "CEOs who actually dont do much"... This is so out of touch with reality.Dont get me wrong the argument that people who do dirty work are underpaid is fine, and i have a lot of respect for those workers. But if you think a CEO, the person who created the company and rests on their decision making shoulders to keep it alive, doesnt do much then you are very VERY disconnected with the reality here.I dont think I ever met a CEO who didnt work more hours than anyone else in the company, take more risk (financial and other kinds), or have to deal with more stress, than a CEO of a succeeding company...All that, even if you do everything perfect as a CEO, its still a gamble if your company succeeds, and since your usually also the owner that means its likel climbing mount everest just to put all your money into a slot machine.

@stux *nodds in agreement*Noone can tell me that their contribution is proportional to the success of the company - because that's impossible for them. They cannot make >100x the average workers' revenue because they cannot work 800+ hrs a day.

@stux many CEOs are workaholics, pathologically so, which is why they have so little empathy for those wanting shorter working hours & a better work life balance. This makes them better at amassing huge shareholder profits, which is the primary purpose of any large company. Greed is the problem.
