       Since Mastodon is a space of deep dives and special interests, anyone know of an account that talks about the ins, outs, logistics of snail mail systems in different countries? Why is Swiss Post so efficient? How have postal codes developed so differently in different countries? etcI'm feeling a need for a deep dive into how mail systems work.        @lastrobot Well, tangentially...Before the Universal Postal Union (formerly the General Postal Union, founded 1874), each nation negotiated individually with every other nation regarding mail delivery.As I understand it, nearly every nation on Earth is party to the UPU.        @lastrobot There are published minutes of meetings of the UPU, and other internal documents, but I don't know of any books about them for the lay person like you or me. I learned about them from a fellow SubGenius who was enthused about them as a model for how large, complex distribution systems-of-systems can function at a low cost (relatively) and with fantastically high accuracy. I don't even know where I put my own glasses sometimes!
