@lowqualityfacts this is a high quality factI worked at Compaq/Digital at the time, mainly validating equipment- ALL OF IT- for Y2K compliance. Pretty much 12h/day often 5 days/week through 1998-9 in preparation. metal brackets for mounting HDDs had to be validated. CMOS backup batteries had to be validated. Power switches had to be validated. I regularly tear strips off people who think Y2K was a hoax because nothing apparent happened to users. Nothing happened because we damn near killed ourselves making sure nothing would happen.

@lowqualityfacts I was on duty in IT support at a large corporate data center ready to respond to all the issues. It was the most boring night of my life. Good thing we had some board games and a deck of cards. 23 years later, I'm still not grey. Well my beard is but only recently.

@lowqualityfacts I remember in COBOL class being trained to look for and repair themillenium glitch.A lot of money was spent wisely, and as a result only a few businesses and Chicago sewerage reported problems. Waiting to be sure the work was right was stressful, more in places where the companies didn't allow proper testing.

@lowqualityfacts The company I was with bought cases and cases of "#2" pencils. They were black instead of yellow and were labeled "Y2K". I got to take them home when we got the "all clear" that our computers survived.Kids today would stress and go gray. They don't know how to write without a computer.
