@ZySoua Assuming the boat is of average size and depth, the tree won't grow large enough and will not change the whole system's mass enough to give it sufficient weight to sink the boat.But it will get you a cool floating bonsai tree.

@ZySoua To produce organic matter, a tree would need non-organic materials like minerals, CO2, and water. And this is a very specific question on how a salty (too rich in minerals) water might affect the tree.If the tree is fine with it, the boat will crack open before sinking. If not, a tree in question will die.

@ZySoua Mian Cat is correct.Trees are basically made of soda-water - water and carbon dioxide get combined to form hydrocarbons, which compose the vast majority of the tree's mass. It's sucking in air and water and making wood out of it.
